Complex functions of Gcn5 and Pcaf in development and disease
Understanding the functions of GCN5/PCAF in developmental processes provides clues to the roles of these KATs in disease states. Here we will review what is currently known about the developmental roles of GCN5 and PCAF, as well as emerging role of these KATs in oncogenesis.
Posttranslational regulation of the GCN5 and PCAF …
Sep 15, 2022 · General control nonderepressible 5 protein (Gcn5) and its homologs, including p300/CBP-associated factor (PCAF), are lysine acetyltransferases that modify both histone and non-histone proteins using acetyl coenzyme A as a donor substrate.
Opposite effects of GCN5 and PCAF knockdowns on the …
Here, we show that the depletion of GCN5 or PCAF in ALT cell lines induces differential effects on some ALT features, which suggests that GCN5 down-regulates ALT through its interactions with USP22, whereas PCAF may indirectly increase telomere recombination in ALT cells.
Distinct GCN5/PCAF-containing complexes function as co
Aug 13, 2007 · In the present review, we summarize the recent evolution of our understanding of the function of two histone acetyl transferases (ATs) from metazoan organisms: GCN5 and PCAF. Their overall...

Feb 1, 2021 · Gcn5 null embryos are defective in somitogenesis and neurulation, whereas Pcaf null mice show a complete lack of developmental phenotypes. Hypomorphic mutations that lower Gcn5 levels or abrogate KAT function result in developmental defects such as skeleton defects and exencephaly.
