GC box - Wikipedia
In molecular biology, a GC box, also known as a GSG box, [1] is a distinct pattern of nucleotides found in the promoter region of some eukaryotic genes. The GC box is upstream of the TATA box, and approximately 110 bases upstream from the transcription initiation site.
GC Box - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
GC boxes are often found within 100 bases upstream of the transcriptional start site, and although they may appear as a single instance, they are commonly repeated 20-50 times. Sometimes, GC boxes appear in genes that do not use a TATA box.

Nov 23, 2020 · A "GC box is a distinct pattern of nucleotides found in the promoter region of some eukaryotic genes upstream of the TATA box and approximately 110 bases upstream from the transcription initiation site. It has a consensus sequence GGGCGG which is position dependent and orientation independent.

Apr 30, 2021 · By placing synthetic 8-oxodG into four specific positions within an artificial elementary promoter, constituted of a standalone GC box, we discovered a remarkable heterogeneity in the impacts of this common oxidatively …
GC box gene transcriptions - wikidoc
GC boxes are responsible for directing transcription from the major and the minor start sites. ... All TATAA-less promoters have at least two GC boxes". [33] "CpG islands typically occur at or near the transcription start site of genes, particularly housekeeping genes, in vertebrates. [17]
Functional analysis of GC Box and its CpG methylation in the
Taken together, our results show that the GC box is a critical element for the CYP1A2 promoter and its epigenetic regulation mediated by CpG methylation may play important roles in the tissue-specific CYP1A2 gene expression.

The GC box as a silencer | Bioscience Reports - Springer
The “GC” box can occur in single or multiple copies and is the binding site for a protein factor, Spl, which activates initiation of transcription. We have observed in the rainbow trout protamine gene 3′ to the TATA box, three “GC” boxes spaced at 80 bp intervals.

Feb 8, 2002 · GC boxes are widely distributed promoter elements that regulate genes expressed in many different cell types; thus, it may seem surprising that such a common promoter element contributes to the neuronal specific expression of p35.
