The FG 42 (German: Fallschirmjägergewehr 42, "paratrooper rifle 42") is a selective-fire 7.92×57mm Mauser automatic rifle [4] [5] produced in Nazi Germany during World War II. [7] The weapon was developed specifically for the use of the Fallschirmjäger airborne infantry in 1942 and was used in very limited numbers until the end of the war.

Jan 26, 2022 · The FG 42 was a powerful automatic rifle developed by the Germans during WWII and served in a similar role to the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR). It was designed for and used by the elite Fallschirmjäger paratroopers.

What is interesting is that the FG-42 borrowed heavily from the still earlier McLean-Lewis designs. The M-60, a U.S. GPMG borrowed design features from a German FG, which borrowed features from an U.S. designed and likely British or Belgian made LMG.

Aug 16, 2023 · Other than gas operation (FG42) vs recoil (M1941), the major distinction between the two is that FG42 is a machine rifle like the BAR, while M1941 is a true LMG like the Bren. Why? Because M1941 has a quick-change barrel; FG42’s barrel is fixed.
