Food going in one end of a ferret usually comes out the other end in 3 to 4 hours. This doesn’t give bacteria like salmonella or e. coli time to set-up shop in the ferret’s system. That is not to say it cannot happen (called bacterial overload), but it is very unlikely in a healthy ferret.
