The reason is physics. Cats reach a much lower terminal velocity than people do (see the math in the article). Thus, after a certain height, they no longer fall any faster. As some cats have been observed falling from higher than the point of terminal velocity and surviving, cats can, potentially, survive a fall from any height.

Apr 23, 2023 · Cats can die falling a few floors, but sometimes they do better if they fall from higher because they can get their body spread out like a wing suit with the extra time. Not all cats are the same though. There definitely are videos of cats surviving falls where they would have reached terminal velocity.

They also have some semblance of social hierarchy, though. So, kitties sleeping on you is probably a sign of trust, that you'll wake them to scram and hide if something were to try and eat them.

Be prepared to leave the house with your pets for a few hours so the material can dry. This is so you and your pets don't contact the wet surfaces and so you don't slip and fall.
