Fais Island is a raised coral island in the eastern Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia.

There was a purpose behind it, whether for economic or other needs; in any event, such a movement suggests an ongoing communication between settled populations --- the group that called Fais home and those from other places, such as Yap and the Solomon Islands.

Yap is known for its stone money, known as Rai, or Fei: large doughnut -shaped, carved disks of (usually) calcite, up to 4 m (13 ft) in diameter (most are much smaller). The smallest can be as little as 3.5 centimetres (1.4 in) in diameter. [6] .

Fais Civil Airfield is located in Yap State on Fais Island, roughly 166 miles (268 km) east of Yap International Airport and 53 miles (85 km) east of Ulithi Atoll. It is currently served by Pacific Missionary Aviation.

Yap Island itself is a tiny speck of land amid the blue of the Pacific Ocean, 2000km east of the Philippines. A further 250km east takes the rare traveler to the unimaginably remote outer island of Fais, area 2.6 sq km and populaton 200.

May 6, 2023 · After World War II, the Catholic Church missionized Fais and the Outer Islands of Yap, resulting in the abandonment of ceremonies for the gods and spirits, as well as the investiture rites for island chiefs.

The President of Micronesia is elected by the Congress from amongst the four at-large senators, after which a special election is held to (re)fill that seat. Fais is represented in the FSM Congress by the Yap, At-Large Seat Senator, and the Yap, Sole Population-Based District Senator.

This paper describes ongoing archaeo- logical research on Fais Island in the Caroline Islands, Federated States of Micro- nesia (FSM). Previously, two excavation projects were conducted on Fais Island, the first in 1991 (a midden), and the second in 1994 (a prehistoric cemetery).
