May 26, 2005 · From all the Penance games I've seen and heard about, the lowest total reached was about 25,000, and a friend of mine reached the highest, which was 37,000. In the particular test game for this guide, I reached 31,000 on the Standard Grid, which is what this guide is based on. However Penance can be beaten with much less than this.

Im looking for the easy way out. Ive put in so much time and this guy is dismantling me left and right. Im too burnt out to grind an armor for rikku and figure out her mixes. Plus, all the walkthroughs online say you need break hp limit, and I only have 1. I really want to move on to FFX-2, but Im too stubborn to leave this guy alive!

Against things like Dark Anima, and Penance, Quick Hit is going to be vital, which means Celestials, max speed (170+) and high strength (255) are almost mandatory, unless you have extensive knowledge of the game, and its systems. Technically speaking, the whole arena can be beaten relatively easily. It's the later Dark Aeons that don't mess around.

Thanks for the strategies, defeated Penance today without any problems, without seeing a single Judgement Day and without summoning a single aeon. Neither of the hands never got a turn. Before attempting to defeat him I created a "Penance Simulator" in MS Excel to count the number of hits and show the remaining HP.
