Since there is no combat, and little theme in your typical eurogame, of course there also aren't any dice needed to determine outcomes in a simulated scenario. That's the main reason for that difference between euro- and ameritrash games.

In my collection, I have two games that are pretty good contenders for the most generic Eurogame. In case anyone gets the wrong idea, I enjoy these games, but I always introduce them to new players as "the generic Eurogame." Concordia is trading in the Mediterranean, though the theme is pasted-on.
