EPOCH publishes fiction, poetry, essays, comics, and graphic art. In continuous publication since 1947, the magazine is edited by students and faculty of the MFA Program in Creative Writing, in Cornell University’s Department of Literatures in English.

For poetry, submit no more than five poems in one batch. For short fiction or essay, submit a single piece or a suite of smaller pieces, i.e., flash fiction. We also accept visual art, for use on the cover, and comics; please submit these via Submittable in the form of a PDF.

Epoch is a triannual American literary magazine founded in 1947 and published by Cornell University. It has published well-known authors and award-winning work including stories reprinted in The Best American Short Stories series and poems later included in The Best American Poetry series . [ 1 ]

Each issue of EPOCH is a labour of love, but the next is particularly special. Issue 20, out June 1st, 2025, will focus on the theme of ‘Power & Resistance’ and marks EPOCH’s 5th anniversary!
