In SAP PO, you have the option to configure one local ES Repository per SAP PI instance (which is the default setup) or to have a central ES Repository connected to all SAP PI systems that are available in your system landscape. We discuss these options in the following subsections.

The figure, Architecture of SAP Process Integration AEX, shows the architecture of the AEX. The main components for design and configuration time are the Enterprise Services Repository (ESR) and the Integration Directory (ID).

You can create required objects in the Enterprise Services Repository (ESR) of a Java AS. These objects can then imported into the process in SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (NWDS).

This scenario covers the following 3 cases: Central ESR instance is an AEX system, a Process Integration and Orchestration (PO) package installation, or a SAP Composition Environment system.

Use the ES Repository Browser toolbar (above the object tree) to perform the above functions. The ES Repository Browser allows you to change some object attributes. Choose Display <-> Change. To create objects, work with the Integration Builder.
