I am a literary and cultural historian interested in how visual culture, life-writing and literature respond to war. I am currently Lecturer in Public History at City, University of London, and was previously Past & Present Postdoctoral Fellow at the Royal Historical Society and the Institute of Historical Research.

What was it like fighting for the British at a time when the struggle for India’s freedom from British rule was at its most incendiary? I am a literary and cultural historian working on conflict and empire. I contribute to our understanding of global war from the perspective of the colonised.

I am working on my first book, based on my recently completed doctoral research (2015-2019) at the Department of English, King's College London, where I studied Indian experiences and literature of the Second World War.
