I'm currently writing in MuseScore, and I have a problem getting the desired playback using dal segno: the second time through, repeat signs are ignored. According to this link, inner repeats in a dal segno section don't get taken the second time through. If this is true, is there some sort of standard way to make a dal segno include repeats?

Jul 10, 2015 · You don't need to use a Coda and Segno because a closing repet can be used more than twice as seen in the Guitar Pro manual: Repeat close. This symbol replaces a closing bar-line, and sends you back to the last Repeat open sign. A dialog window will open up for you to indicate the number of repeats you want.

This last one really confirms what I already suspected, which is that Guitar Pro makes its own assumptions when navigation marks such as Da Segno/Da Coda are mixed with repeat signs and sometimes the playback of the audio is unexpected when compared to the sheet.

Here the performance is as thought. Repeats at bars 1-2, 3-4 and 5-8, then Dal Segno and repeats at bars 1-2, 3-4 and then to Coda at bar 9. Here the performance differs.

Jul 21, 2022 · It's a nice method of notation and can be extended to more choices. There are also things like "dal segno" and "al fine" and others. You should check them out; search the internet for music notation. This link has a nice summary of the most basic repeats and endings.

D.S al Fine here, in this piece, means play through everything, sequentially, and at the D.S., go back to the Segno (at A, as it happens), and play through until Fine - at the end of A. Share Improve this answer

Jul 28, 2022 · @AakashM "D.S." stands for "Dal Segno" (a type of repeat indicator); the "x" stands for the number of times the "D.S" indication (elsewhere in the music) has been encountered. So the "D.S.x" means "play these notes each time you are following a D.S. repeat indication." –

The guidelines say "All da capo and dal segno indications should be observed but all other repeats (including first-time bars) should be omitted unless they are very brief (i.e. of a few bars) or unless the syllabus specifies otherwise." ABRSM para 15(h)
