Beautiful trail! I loved the change of scenery from the redwood/Doug fir forest with tan oak & madrone understory to the Monterey pines & chaparral, then back down into dense redwoods: just inspiring! The Dool Trail is closed right now, so we took a slight detour. Enjoy!

Apr 23, 2018 · Where it splits to go to Berry Creek Falls, we head left towards the Dool trail. The trail slowly begins to climb out of the redwood forest. Then suddenly, you’re in the chaparral. It’s much warmer here, by a good 5-10 degrees, and much drier too.

Aug 20, 2020 · Dool Trail - starting a short distance north of the visitor center, the Dool Trail climbs 400 feet up the hills above Redwood Creek, a tributary of Opal Creek, to a vehicle track (Middle Ridge Road). A mile north, this road reaches 1,685 foot Ocean View Summit.

Turn left, cross Gazos Creek Road, and continue downhill on the Dool Trail, which is noticably lusher and more scenic than the Creeping Forest Trail. As it descends through a redwood-lined ravine, increasingly large redwoods are visible through the dense huckleberry.
