What Is DIMM? - Enterprise Storage Forum
Jul 18, 2019 · While DIMM’s predecessor, SIMM (Single In-Line Memory Module), are 32-bit and must be installed in matched pairs to achieve 64-bit data paths, DIMMs are natively 64 bits. This enables a single DIMM to transfer data twice as fast as a single SIMM. DIMM memory chips are dynamic random access memory (DRAM), the most common type of primary memory.
What is SIMM, DIMM, SODIMM and RIMM memory? - Tom's …
Jan 30, 2018 · What is SIMM, DIMM, SODIMM and RIMM memory? Are these some kind of old ram sticks that are predecessors of the DDR RAMs?
[SOLVED] DIMM Slot A1 and A2 suddenly not working
Oct 17, 2013 · I thought nothing of it really and restarted and after that my computer has been freezing and crashing a ton after. First it started out with BSoDs with some varying errors and later on I just got freezing or black screen, even in BIOS on two occasions, Turns out now after some more testing that neither the A1 or A2 DIMM slots work.
What is the actually difference between UDIMM and DIMM?
Nov 22, 2013 · Any DDR3 DIMM can be inserted into any DDR3 DIMM slot. Derivative forms such as SO-DIMM, MicroDIMM, and UniDIMM may contain the exact same chips but are mechanically incompatible. Inside of the DIMM form factor are several different but closely related electrical and logical interfaces. First is the unbuffered DIMM, or UDIMM.
[SOLVED] What's the difference between DIMM, UDIMM, SO-DIMM?
Dec 22, 2020 · UDIMM is a DIMM that is not registered (buffered), typical consumer computer memory. SO-DIMM is a different pin layout for laptops usually. edit: note that memory is sold to work as a set, even another of the same may not work -- although it usually does. Mixing speeds or timings will make success much less likely.
Does using udimm or dimm matter - Tom's Hardware Forum
Dec 30, 2017 · Strictly speaking, this could mean any type of DIMM such as Unbuffered, Registered, or Load Reduced. However, it is usually understood by most people that when mentioning "DIMM" by itself, it usually means that the memory is Unbuffered since this is the most common type of memory used (in consumer motherboards).
DIMM with UDIMM ram together? | Tom's Hardware Forum
Jul 8, 2016 · There are a few different types of DIMMs. RDIMM (registered DIMM) and UDIMM (unbuffered), and usually that's related to ECC type RAM. Registered DIMMS (RDIMMS) are always ECC. UDIMMS could be ECC or non-ECC. The Kingston stick is a non-ECC DIMM, which is evident. The Crucial stick is a non-ECC as well.
[SOLVED] - DIMM in UDIMM motherboard - Tom's Hardware Forum
Mar 4, 2019 · SO-DIMM vs DIMM is simply a form factor. SO-DIMM stands for Small Outline - Dual In-line Memory Module. SO-DIMMs are typically intended for install locations where space is at a premium. This is typically in laptops, tablets, or Small Form Factor (SFF)/Next Unit of Computing (NUC) systems.
DIMM vs SODIMM - Tom's Hardware Forum
Feb 14, 2014 · This allows for up to four ranks per channel using a SODIMM formfactor or 16 ranks per channel using a DIMM formfactor. There are typically two ranks per DIMM (one per side) with only expensive server modules having four or eight. Combined with a typical one or two DIMM/SODIMM slots per channel, 4 is rarely ever exceeded using commercial ...
Does it matter which dimm slot i put my ram in?
Jul 7, 2016 · If the manual recommends DIMM slots 1 and 2, those will provide dual channel speed. If you have them in 1 and 3, you are losing some performance by only being in single channel speed. If you add another pair of matched RAM sticks, they should go in 1 and 4.
