Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plusare lossy multichannel audio streams, which can generally be played with a "Straight" audio method on Yamaha AVRs. They're not a decoder, you can't "select" DD or DD+.

A ProLogic decoder can extract the center and surround information. So, I am not sure what you mean about using Dolby Surround in conjunction with the other codecs.

They are both "lossy" in that some of the original data is not restored. While DD and DTS are different codecs, there's no quality difference between them. DD and DTS are used on DVDs and BDs.
