In 1937, Howard Hughes began the design of an advanced twin-engine, twin-boom aircraft. The D-2's early gestation is historically obscure because Hughes Aircraft and its corporate successors have never released archives regarding the D-2; however, Howard Hughes had recently set a global circumnavigation speed record in a Lockheed 14.

The Char D2 was a French medium tank of the interwar period. In 1930, at a time the Char D1 had not even entered production, the Renault company agreed to build a better armoured version called the Char D2.

Caterpillar built 20,503 D7's during World War Two, which was 40% of the tractors it built from 1942-1945. The Caterpillar D7 with a LeTourneau bulldozer but painted in olive-drab rather than Caterpillar yellow, was the iconic military crawler tractor-bulldozer combination of World War II.

D2 steel’s popularity began during the “Rosey the Riveter” days of World War II. Back then, D2 steel was used to make dies for production lines. A die is pressed down to cut and create shapes out of softer steel.

Situated between Dover and St Margaret’s and close to the two cross-channel gun emplacements ‘Jane’ and ‘Clem’, the D2 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery was in use throughout the Second World War. Now part of our Wanstone Rediscovered project, we’ll look back at the history of D2 and explore its features that can still be seen today.

Oct 23, 2007 · I wanted to find the numbers for gasoline and diesel use during land operations in WWII, but so far I have only found specs on gasoline use during the period of the breakout from Normandy in 1944-1945.

Early prototypes were, among others, fitted with turrets of the Renault’s FT 17 during a mock-up. The production models had the APX-1 turret, armed with a short 47mm SA34 tank gun and a coaxial 7.5mm MG. From March 1940 the more powerful 47mm SA35 tank gun was fitted, many older tanks were re-equipped with it.
