The barring gene also interacts with the gene on the E locus, all of the above examples being based on the E plus melantoics.

Jun 16, 2023 · The blue gene affects the black feathers on a chicken. So a black/blue/splash chart applies to cuckoo marans, and any other chicken variety that has some amount of black. It comes up regularly with some of the laced chickens: a Black Laced Red chicken (black edges on red feathers) becomes a Blue Laced Red chicken or a Splash Laced Red chicken.

Jun 28, 2023 · He's old, very old, and clumsy. Idk how fertility would be with his own breed but he crossed out with close to 50% fertility to my young Buff Orpington pullets without a butt trim. The resulting boys look like Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons (or maybe more accurately Buff Cuckoo), the girls pass for much bigger Buff Orpingtons.

Jan 8, 2025 · I don't believe there is such a thing as a "lemon" Orpington (lemon cuckoo is just buff cuckoo.) Every other color you listed here breeds true except the blue partridge. I guess I'd recommend breeding those with regular partridge because edging in this variety is less important (unless you want to get splash partridge.)
