Comet (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS), also known as the Great Comet of 2024 and formally designated as C/2023 A3, is a comet from the Oort cloud discovered by the Purple Mountain Observatory in China on 9 January 2023 and independently found by ATLAS South Africa on 22 February 2023.

The Comet 3, which flew for the first time on 19 July 1954, was a Comet 2 lengthened by 15 ft 5 in (4.70 m) and powered by Avon M502 engines developing 10,000 lbf (44 kN). [168] The variant added wing pinion tanks, and offered greater capacity and range. [ 169 ]

C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) is a partially disintegrated non-periodic comet, which reached perihelion on 13 January 2025, at a distance of 0.09 AU (13 million km) from the Sun. Dubbed the Great Comet of 2025, it is currently the brightest comet of 2025, [6] with an apparent magnitude reaching −3.8 on the day of its perihelion. [5] .
