The Colt Automatic Rifle or Colt Light Machine Gun is a 5.56 mm NATO, open-bolt, full-automatic-only firearm developed by Colt Defense. [1] It is based on the M16A2/A4, and has a distinctive squared-off handguard, vertical grip, carrying handle and integrated bipod. [2]

The 5.56 mm Light Support Weapon (LSW) is designed to provide small expeditionary units with a high volume of accurate support fire without increasing the logistical load. The LSW shares the same ammunition, magazines and operating principals as the rifle or carbine.

The Diemaco Light Support Weapon (LSW) features an enlarged straight gas tube and an almost 1 inch thick heavy barrel to make the barrel less susceptible for overheating and hence increase the sustained or effective rate of fire capability. The LSW can only fire automatically and uses a proprietary Diemaco hydraulic buffer assembly.

Oct 25, 2021 · Colt sought to create a SAW design utilizing as much of the existing M16 parts family as possible while firing from an open bolt. Colt’s engineer, Henry Tatro, designed a trigger group that allows the M16 to fire from an open bolt without any modifications to the receiver.

Sep 1, 2010 · A vast majority of these weapons were sold by Diemaco (or now Colt Canada). Diemaco called these weapons the LSW (Light Support Weapon) instead of the LMG. The LSW was sold to Denmark and the Royal Dutch Marines. The main difference between the LSW was that it fired from the closed bolt and had forward assist assemblies.
