I have several questions about the Colt Model 733 Commando
Jun 28, 2008 · The Colt Model 733 was a transitional weapon, both A1 and A2 lowers were used. It was, like all transitional 700-series weapons, also billed as part of the "M16A2" family following the adoption of the M16A2 by the US military. This was a marketing decision by Colt, and had little to do with the actual US military M16A2 (Colt Model 645).
Good start to a 733 commando build?? > Colt - AR15.COM
Mar 1, 2021 · Here is a Colt LE brochure from 1999 when they were still offering the original 733 all the way up to the newer 933: Note that in 1999 they apparently still shipped with "skinny" original 6-hole (single heat shield, not M4) handguards and the fiberlite M4 stock (which was current-production on every M4 and M4A1 at that time).

Feb 12, 2011 · The 733 with A1 field sights was the standard variation until the late 90s. Colt's website still lists the 733 with fixed sights, but doesn't distinguish whether A1 or A2. The A2 sights have to be pretty rare on the 733s; I've only seen uppers from those for sale, never pics of complete weapons.

May 16, 2016 · I would like to build a 733 clone with the grey CH upper, the other is purple and would need to send it to US Anodizing. From the research I have done so far it seems the C7 style uppers were used on the later 733. It looks like on the later 733 an A2 lower was used. Colt 6 hole handguards. Colt 2 position buffer tube.

Dec 30, 2007 · A1 or A2 - the 700 Series was very "transitional", and Colt had no problem mixing a large variety of A1 and A2 components on the various models. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to what made something an "A2" other than Colt calling it an "A2". Plenty of the 733 pics posted show the variations well. "Capt Richardson"
Which lower receiver for 733 Commando build... > Colt - AR15.COM
Mar 2, 2021 · Confusingly, it is listed by Colt as a "M16A2" model when in fact initial versions came with the M16A1, and then the C7 upper receiver only. In 2005, Colt introduced a semi auto only version of the 733... the model 6933." In the movie Heat, they ran an A2 lower so you you'd want a Colt AR15A2 IMHO.

Colt 733, is it an A1 or A2? > AR-15 / M-16 Retro Forum > …
Aug 23, 2021 · The 733 is part of the M16A2 Series of weapons even though they were built using M16A1, M16A1E1 (C7), and A2 uppers receivers as well as A1 and A2 lowers. They were also built using 11.5" A1 and A2 profile barrels.
Colt 733 w/ A2 upper - AR15.COM
May 2, 2020 · Colt has never used a govt profile on the 733 AFAIK. Even the 933 used a .625” FSB up until a couple of years ago and it continues to have the skinny profile forward of the .750” gas journal. The closest thing to what you’re describing would be the FBI barrels but they are thicker than govt profile under the handguards.
Is this Colt 733 upper real? > AR-15 / M-16 Retro Forum > …
Dec 18, 2024 · IIRC thin 7 hole hand guards were all commercial aftermarket and not original Colt parts. I noticed the charging handle latch, other than that and the hand guards, the upper looks like a Colt to me. The silverish crush washer behind the flash hider is correct for a Colt Model 733 (A) EDIT: we could start a discussion if this is the right forum.
