May 27, 2024 · The Cave Hyena (Crocuta crocuta spelaea) was an extinct relative of the spotted hyena. These guys roamed the Eurasian landscape during the ice age. These hyenas were large and most likely lived similar to the spotted hyena. These guys were true menaces, they had even pushed the wolves to hunt in the woodlands.

Jan 11, 2024 · For a cave hyena, that's more around the 100 kg. Dire wolves, much like the 'true' wolves in Europe, would likely be forced to do some niche partioning there. Also, being a hypercarnivore doesn't instantly mean you're the better hunter.
