CATSA is an agent Crown corporation accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Transport. CATSA delivers the mandate of security screening at 89 designated airports across the country through a third-party screening contractor model.

CATSA uses explosive trace detection (ETD) as a security measure. Screening officers may swab your carry-on baggage, clothing, shoes or laptop. When a trace of person is required, the screening officer will swab your hands, waist area and foot (or footwear) and then use ETD technology to test for explosives.

CATSA is committed to a barrier-free security screening experience for persons with disabilities. Verified Traveller lines are fully accessible and available to all eligible travellers.

To achieve this, CATSA is mandated to conduct security screening in the following four areas: Pre-Board Screening ; Hold Baggage Screening ; Non-Passenger Screening ; and Restricted Area Identity Card .

Dec 12, 2024 · As an appropriated Crown corporation, CATSA delivers its civil aviation security screening mandate in accordance with the resources it is assigned by the Government of Canada. Since 2015, CATSA’s A-Base funding has been supplemented with incremental funding in order to maintain its operations.

Feb 27, 2025 · The Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) is the first airport in Canada to trial this new line that offers the benefits of a CATSA Plus screening line by allowing multiple (up to three) passengers to place their belongings in screening bins at the same time.
