DL #3000, a MLW C630M, at the Steamtown National Historic Site in 2008. The ALCO Century 630 is a model of six-axle, 3,000 hp (2.2 MW) diesel-electric locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) between 1965 and 1967.

Aug 13, 2024 · The C630M/M630 was based from Alco's powerful C630 series. This C-C model was built between 1965 and 1967. It is part of Alco's 'Century' Series, which aimed to compete with EMD and GE's offerings during the highly competitive dieselization era in North America.

Dec 23, 2024 · The C630M was built at the Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) with the "M" designated "Canadianization" for locomotive requirements in that country. When Schenectady ended operations on December 31, 1968, production of this model continued at MLW but were re-designated as the M630.

Jan 1, 2021 · C630 (upgraded C628) - modifiied by NdeM in Mexico (20 units? in-line with Alco specs.) Total production reached 133 units sans NdeM's C628 upgrades, and MLW's M630. The 2019 Locomotive Annual magazine (and Greg McDonnell) provided an excellent overview of MLW's M-Line locomotives, including the M630.

Dec 31, 2024 · A wide angle view of a 108 car westbound at the signals with a CP 40 widecab and a couple of MLWs. There were still a lot of MLWs in service in the late 80s, and they were common on road trains. This 108 car westbound has a GP 40 leading a pair of big Ms.

On September 30th, 1984, Brian Nicholson caught well maintained CN C630M 2020 leading an eastbound freight at Norman Street in 1984. The train has just departed Taschereau Yard and is on the Montreal Sub passing Lachine, Ville St-Pierre bound for New Brunswick.
