Oct 18, 2023 · The CBU-97 pucks are sensor fuzed. They spread out over the target, each puck uses a sensor to look down, and when they detect that they're over something that resembles a vehicle, the shaped charge essentially fires a shot straight down onto the target.

Oct 18, 2019 · On the topic of CBU-97's, I've been thoroughly enjoying cheesing the a2g missions on the inferno servers by setting a course to run lengthwise across the target area and rippling 10 of them at 500 foot intervals. Switch to the F2 view and watch the target area get completely engulfed in carnage and your kill count racks up fast.

Apr 29, 2022 · It's HOF in the A-10C (I don't think the Hornet gets the CBU-97). What I've found there is that 1200' never fails, 900' rarely fails, 700' sometimes fails, and 500' mostly fails, but I don't know if that translates to the Viper's BA settings then

Jan 8, 2020 · I think it's related to the CBU-97 because it's very hard to do a CCIP release in the A10a too. I've found that diving really steep helps, but then you don't get a good spread of the cluster munitions. CCRP works fine however, when you're flying over straight and level. Maybe this is a feature of the CBU-97 in real life?

The CBU-97 is a devastating area weapon. You can increase the spread of the projectiles by changing your release delay, by flying faster over the target area or a combination of the two. As for SEAD, it would be effective no doubt but you'd need to get close enough to perform a targeted release which is going to put you firmly in the engagement ...
