Microglial-derived C1q integrates into neuronal ribonucleoprotein ...
Jun 27, 2024 · The microglial-secreted complement protein C1q is internalized by neurons in an age-dependent manner, undergoes RNA-mediated interactions with neuronal ribonucleoprotein complexes, and alters neuronal protein translation and homeostasis in the adult and aging brain; highlighting how temporally regulated neuroimmune interactions impact critical ...
Intracellular C1q – an unexpected player in neuronal proteostasis
Sep 25, 2024 · A recent study by Scott-Hewitt et al. demonstrates that microglia-derived C1q unexpectedly associates with the ribosomes of neurons in the aging murine brain, where it impacts protein translation and impairs the extinction of conditioned fear responses.
Emerging Roles of Complement Protein C1q in Neurodegeneration
In the central nervous system, C1q has diverse neuroprotective roles against pathogens and inflammation. Most of neurodegenerative diseases show region specific pathology feature in the brain. It has been suggested the evidences that the active site and amount of C1q may be disease specific.
C1q is essential for myelination in the central nervous system (CNS)
Dec 15, 2023 · Myelin sheath in the central nervous system (CNS) is essential for efficient action potential conduction. Microglia, the macrophages in the CNS, are suggested to regulate myelin development. However, the specific involvement of microglia …
C1q enhances microglial clearance of apoptotic neurons and …
Microglia added to C1q coated wells or fed apoptotic neurons or neuronal blebs coated with C1q suppressed the LPS-induced production of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α, while the presence of C1q enhanced levels of the chemokine MCP-1/CCL2.
Novel C1q receptor-mediated signaling controls neural stem cell ...
Here, we show for the first time that C1q acts as a functional hNSC ligand, inducing intracellular signaling to control cell behavior. Using an unbiased screening strategy, we identified five transmembrane C1q signaling/receptor candidates in hNSC …
Microglial-derived C1q integrates into neuronal ... - PubMed
Aug 8, 2024 · Mice lacking C1q have age-specific alterations in neuronal protein synthesis in vivo and impaired fear memory extinction. Together, our findings reveal a biophysical property of C1q that underlies RNA- and age-dependent neuronal interactions and demonstrate a role of C1q in critical intracellular neuronal processes.
A microglial compliment: controlling neuronal function from …
Oct 7, 2024 · A recent study published in Cell revealed that in the aging brain, the microglia-derived complement component C1q is internalized into neurons through endocytosis, integrates into...
Intracellular C1q - an unexpected player in neuronal proteostasis
A recent study by Scott-Hewitt et al. demonstrates that microglia-derived C1q unexpectedly associates with the ribosomes of neurons in the aging murine brain, where it impacts protein translation and impairs the extinction of conditioned fear responses.
Complement Protein C1q-Mediated Neuroprotection Is Correlated …
Mar 2, 2011 · In vitro, C1q, in the absence of other complement proteins, improves neuronal viability and neurite outgrowth and prevents β-amyloid-induced neuronal death, suggesting that C1q may have a direct neuroprotective role.
