Mar 18, 2025 · This 1997 Buell S1 Lightning is powered by a V-twin that has been modified with an NRHS big-bore 1,250cc kit, Axtell cylinders, forged pistons, XB Thunderstorm heads, a Mikuni flatslide carburetor, a race ECM, and an easy-pull clutch.

The air-cooled 1200cc V-twin engine starts life as the same unit found in Harley's 1200 Sportster. But Mr. Buell then adds free flowing heads, a lightened flywheel, recalibrated ignition, and bigger exhaust headers. It inhales through this ungainly-looking, side-mounted airbox.
