Aug 29, 2014 · Yes, I no longer have the brown algae on the corals. I slowly brought the nutrients up, increased the cuc and flow. Then brought them, slowly, back down using gfo and NoPox, adding small amount of Acro power and trace elements. Since then I have gotten better color and growth on the acros.

As the diatoms decompose, they release silicate back into the aquarium water.

Jul 17, 2016 · I am using RO water. My problem is that the tank has been running for 7 weeks now and now the tank has brown algae mostly on the sand. I did a water change last weekend and removed the brown algae but it has returned. Could the setting on my light be wrong which is causing this algae or is the just something a new tank goes through.

Jan 8, 2021 · My tank cycled back in March. For the past month+, I've had a bloom of brown hair algae on the rocks and sand. It doesn't blow off, and I even removed some rock to scrub off what I could with a brush. I also find myself cleaning the glass every other day, as well as the media in my chamber as the filter bags turn brown and get a bit slimy.

I have watched all the videos I could that Cory has posted on this and have tried everything. I know its some sort of balance I am missing but I am unsure now which direction to go, as all I seem to be doing is making changes every few weeks.

May 6, 2014 · I have been battling this brown hair algae for quite some time and I haven't been able to effectively beat it. Tank is over a year old, coral and livestock do fine. I have tried researching and found maybe this is from low nutrients. I have had undetectable nitrates for a while but didn't do anything about it because the coral has done ok.
