Jul 3, 2004 · Don't put bondo on bare metal, I don't care what tech sheets say, it's a bad idea. Epoxy primer will get better adhesion than bondo, and seal the surface from rust. The problem comes when you get a chip or gouge in the paint that exposes the bondo. It's made of polyester resin and talc, the resin isn't waterproof and talc absorbs moisture.

Aug 26, 2004 · I actually would rather use Bondo in certain situations because of it's stiffness. For example, I used bondo as a base coat to cover crevices in foam on some stuff I was fiberglassing. Bondo simply doesn't run, other products do in heavy amounts. I use a lot of NAPA brand fiberglass and specialized fillers, but they're expensive.

Also I noticed the rear passenger tail light surround at the far right leading edge is pretty much all bondo 1/8inch thick at least. There is considerable bondo in other places too. Aug 10, 2005 · Bondo is porous even after it is cured. Since you won't be painting the back side the bondo will be exposed to moisture where it has filled the pin holes. Moisture can then get into the bondo and cause rust and/or the paint to blister. I don't think it would happen within a matter of months but it will eventually cause a problem.

Oct 18, 2014 · Bondo before. If you apply filler over the primer, as mentioned, look for a polyester glazing putty, as they are designed to do so. The typical bondo doesn't like to bond to paint/primers. And you'll be breaking through the epoxy primer when you block, that's actually what you look for initially.

Mar 15, 2008 · That's the original BONDO brand bondo, and from which the plastic body fillers got their slang name. It's good stuff for normal filling. Open it and look on the top and see if it's started to separate. If not, it's OK to use. Even if it's separated some, you can still stir it up and use it. You must use the correct amount of activator with it.

Oct 21, 2008 · For a Rattle-Can, you can spray primer to cover the bondo and give proper adhesion (that is what primer is supposed to do) but then spray over that with lacquer TOPCOAT. Basically any paint meant as a final finish at the viewed surface of the car. That will seal the primer, and it's what primer is meant to be covered with in the first place.
