Feb 15, 2008 · Barn owls are rarely a threat to chickens. On the very rare occasion they might grab a small chicken or chick but their standard prey is mouse sized rodents, maybe something as big as a rat or baby rabbit, and small birds. Even if they were left out overnight you probably wouldn't ever lose a chicken to a barn owl.

Jun 25, 2009 · As everyone else has told you yes, but... it depends on the owls. I'm not worried about our tiny screetch owls. Shoot they were so wimpy they were run out of their house by squirrels. The large barn owl in the woods across the street is a different matter. Chances are whatever you heard would love to make a meal out of your rooster.

Dec 9, 2009 · They never took off with any but I did have to patch up a lot of heads until I finally sold them all. after I sold them I had no more problems with Owl attacks. Where I am at, I have seen Great Horned & Barn Owls most commonly, but I am sure it was a Horned Owl causing the damage. It's not uncommon for them to kill & eat birds as large as geese.

We have a barn approx 100 ft from house that we leave wide open for our birds, and keep it well-lit. Our chickens roost on a horse stall rail, and our geese and ducks all go inside the barn at night when it is super cold.

Owls DO hunt chickens and roosters!
Sep 23, 2013 · Just about 10 minutes ago, Mr. Owl comes BACK! It was still light but dusky. The Owl perched himself right at the peak of the large storage shed right behind the coop, and just stared at us. Some of the chickens were again in the apple tree, clucking like crazy. About 3 jumped down and hid under the raise coop.
