Aug 30, 2021 · “Joe” reigned from 1046 BC to 256 BC. This was before the silk road opened to the west. But still, even without global trade, Baoji wasn’t a western backwater with chickens and under-educated people. It had been home to human-like beings who wandered the Shaanxi plains for over 100,000 years.

Perhaps, that is why the main cultural and historical gem of Baoji is considered the legendary Taoist temple of Jintao-guan. The Jintao guan Temple is one of the oldest shrines of Taoism. The temple was built in traditional Chinese style; it features three turrets of gold, silver and jasper.

Baoji is renowned for being a significant historical city on the Silk Road, famed for its ancient bronzes, beautiful landscapes, and as the birthplace of Yan Di, one of China’s legendary emperors.

In the westernmost of Shaanxi Province, Baoji has a long history and many cultural relics. It sits against the Qinling Range in the south and the Loess Plateau in the North. It was a must way on the Old Silk Road.
