Feb 28, 2010 · The BFM 500 model is made using 500 denier Nylon material. The original BFM uses 1,000 denier nylon. A little heavier material the 500 is lighter, has more space, but uses material that is a little less durable. Camelbak switched to the 500 models to reduce weight with a minimal loss in durability. That is my understanding.
