Armthorpe is a village and parish in the West Riding of Yorkshire which forms the eastern edge of the Doncaster urban area. It has a population of 12,630, [1] increasing to 14,457 at the 2011 Census. [2] The settlement of Armthorpe was first recorded in 1086 as 'Ernulfestorp', showing the influence of the Vikings on the region.

Although Armthorpe was almost self contained, its inhabitants did trade with Doncaster. The village was responsible for the maintenance of its own roads and was one of the few West Riding townships which was never fined by Quarter Sessions for neglecting its roads.
