The Temple of Al-Lat (Arabic: معبد اللات), was an ancient temple located in Palmyra, Syria dedicated to the goddess Al-Lat. The temple was dedicated by the citizen Taimarsu of Palmyra in c. 123–164 A.D. [1] The cult statue was made with an appearance similar to statues of the Greek goddess Athena in Athens. [1]

Al-Lat was also venerated in Palmyra, where she was known as the "Lady of the temple". [24] According to an inscription, she was brought into the Arab quarter of the city by a member of the Bene Ma'zin tribe, [ 25 ] who were probably an Arab tribe.

The Lion of Al-lāt (Arabic: أسد اللات) is an ancient statue that adorned the Temple of Al-Lat in Palmyra, Syria. On 27 June 2015, it was severely damaged by the ISIL after it captured Palmyra. [1] The statue was removed to the National Museum of Damascus and underwent reconstruction work, and now stands again. [2]
