Alaa Awad has been painting since childhood. „My dad encouraged me to go in that direction,“ he recalls. He draws his inspiration from the life of his country, from his traditions, from the heritage of pharaonic civilization. He blends subtly with the social conditions of his country.

As part of “Thebes,” Awad has created an original mural along the Route 2 overpass, which was unveiled on June 26th in conjunction with the 2014 launch of MCLA’s Downstreet Art gallery program. The mural is entitled “Justice.”
