The Airspy R2 is a lot better than the cheap SDR dongles that I have, but is buggy using USB 3.0 slots. I only have one USB 2.0 slot so this is fine for now, but it would be great for Airspy to update their USB drivers to support USB 3.0 slots better than currently.

Jul 23, 2024 · I recently dipped my toe into SDR, starting with an Airspy R2. My interest is mostly in aviation monitoring and SDR seems the way to be going, but I admit there has been a bit of a learning curve for me.

Starting from June 2016, Airspy R2 units are calibrated in the factory up to ~0.05 PPM. This calibration is written in a different memory location than the one used for the firmware, so upgrading the firmware won’t delete it unless you do it by yourself.

Airspy R2 is an advanced open-source software defined radio receiver with adequate dynamic range, capable of sampling 10MHz of spectrum anywhere between 24MHz and 1.8GHz – and even beyond with extensions.
