Aug 21, 2016 · After getting the bug to have the drivers for my ADS - L980's updated, I have been settling in with my ADS-L880's. They are a much smaller cabinet volume wise than the L980, in fact they are smaller than the old L-810's I used to own, and my L620's (a two way) as well, but the company was doing some great things when these speakers were developed.

No way could I have afforded ads when I bought my Monitor 7As. The L-710s I have now were dump finds :-) BTW, these classic ads speakers are surprisingly sensitive and sound very good powered by fairly low-powered vacuum tube amps (e.g., push-pull EL84; ca. 12 to 14 watts).

Aug 4, 2016 · Bought ADS L880's in 1985, which are 200 wpc max rated@8 ohms. 89 db spl efficiency. Has tweeter attenuation switch and 2 fuses. The L880 series 2 brochure showns same rating, efficiency, switch and fuses. The odd one is the L880/2 which is rated 150 wpc max rated@8ohms on speaker ID plate. No tweeter switch or fuses.

May 3, 2016 · Are they L880/2s, or L880s? Some ADS models have a problem with an additive in the glue causing rust to develop under the woofer surround, eventually causing the surround to separate from the basket. That might be what you're hearing. I think this may be more likely with the L880/2s than with the L880s, but am not certain of that.

Jan 22, 2024 · The 502 pushes the ADS L880's with ease. I like to listen at middle levels, or often a bit higher. I could crank the L880 to a loudness that I would never use for very long and still have no issues with distortion. I am listening in a finished basement with 7 and 1/2 foot ceiling. Very impressed with the L880.
