Oct 18, 2010 · I've owned a 98 KX 250 and still have a 2000 KX 250 and rode both of them in the woods and on the track. The 98 was an absolute tractor in the woods, especially when I changed out the front sprocket with a 12 tooth, and the 2000 handles well in the woods also.

Aug 14, 2008 · Just curious if anyone has any experience with the '95, '96, '97 and '98 kx250's that could compare the power characteristics between them. Obviously, everyone raves about the '98 being the best, but is the '95 through '97 significantly weaker or lacking in low end etc. compared to the '98?

Dec 27, 2008 · The cylinder is "KEY" to the 98's performance. Yes, the cylinders interchange with other years, but if you put a 2000 cylinder on it, it will run like a 2000 more or less). Kawi changed the porting and such pretty much every year. To harness the true power, it needs to have the original cylinder.

Nov 5, 2003 · I have a 98 KX 250. It's a great bike. Lots of torque down low and it does pretty well for mid and top too. Top end drops a little quick compared to some bikes, but not bad. Ergonomics are great. The KIPS exhaust valve system is interesting. You need to do a thorough job of cleaning and adjusting these with every top end rebuild.

Oct 31, 2012 · I picked up this super clean '98 KX250 over the weekend. The guy told that he bought it off the original owner a while back who was a friend of his and that it was never raced. I dunno how true that is but it's definitely in pretty original shape.
