X4 Foundations (I'd call this 4x-adjacent) - really cool to experience a first-person "4x" game. It gets grindy if you're laser-focused on big, long-term goals, but the minute-to-minute "I've landed my fighter on my carrier on my space station" or "I'm looking out the space station windows at a non-scripted sandbox battle" moments are incredible

Games like Civ, yes. Conquer the world and/or universe. Topically involve diplomacy, research, trade, etc. StarCraft and Age of Empires are real time strategy games, more focused on tactical battles. More focused on the final x, if you will Not saying they are bad games - definitely are good games - but not typically considered 4x.

Mar 5, 2018 · However, if you can get past the UI, Aurora easily becomes one of the most in-depth 4x games out there. On the "historical" side of things there's FreeCiv which I personally haven't had a ton of experience with, but have heard that it's pretty good. Can't personally speak for any fantasy games though. Aug 1, 2014 · Due to the turn based nature of most 4X games, you probably can run most of them fine. About the only thing you will struggle with are ones you heavily mod. I would suggest possibly trying Endless Space or even taking a step back and playing Civ 4, which is a different game from Civ 5 altogether in my books.
