The Midland Railway Class 2 4-4-0 was a series of 12 classes of 4-4-0 steam locomotives built by and for the Midland Railway between 1876 and 1901 while Samuel W. Johnson held the post of locomotive superintendent.

Details: The class designated 2P by the LMS, were in reality successors to the Midland Railways (MR) produced Class 483 built from 1892 to 1921 of which 165 had been built. A further 138 2P’s were produced at either Crewe or Derby Locomotive Works between 1928 and 1932.

The 2P was made by removing the outside cylinders and fitting larger front bogie wheels, and this made quite a charming little engine. Another interesting point was that the Compound and 2P had a great deal of parts in common with the L1.

LMS 2P 4-4-0 suitable for lightweight express work and also used often as a second support locomotive on top link expresses. Introduced in 1928 and withdrawn by 1962, sadly all were scrapped.
