It could be that the algorithm is not detecting that specific DNA because you are too far removed from those ancestors.

May 4, 2021 · 23andMe's genetic communities are based on DNA matches and AncestryDNA's genetic communities are also based on DNA matches. The thing is, 23andMe doesn't make one for Americans. And AncestryDNA breaks down American ones and makes a bunch of genetic communities for American more than Caribbean and other foreign people.

With Louis Gates, might be thinking about AfricanAncestryDNA which is a haplogroup test that many African American celebs took years ago. Finding Your Roots uses AncestryDNA and 23andMe. The ones from there- like Maya Rudolph's, aren't that old.

Jan 12, 2019 · 23andMe will give you your maternal haplogroup (plus your autosomal DNA- which is more important). I'd take them first before buying AfricanAncestry (hell, having the scientific name of your haplogroup will allow you to do your own research on which tribes and regions in Africa is the haplogroup most found in). Better safe than sorry.
