Recommendations for 20W-50 motor oil | BobIsTheOilGuy
Apr 30, 2017 · 20W50 is stout oil as it starts with a 20W base oil + even conventional needs few viscosity improvers, BUT it will prolly NOT start in the cold, especially conventional!! i would give Mobil I 15-50 a go for colder weather being thinner at cold temps + since its synthetic but only group III it forms little wax when cold.
Question about 20W-50 | BobIsTheOilGuy
Jun 22, 2005 · IMHO, even here, in Arkansas, 20w-50 is just too thick of an oil to run in any modern V-8. Personally, I wouldn't run any thicker than 15w-40, and would defiantely take that over a 10w-40. That engine was designed with 10w-30 in mind, and will run just fine with that.

Best 20W-50 for marine engines??? - Bob is the Oil Guy
Nov 28, 2002 · The Mobil 1, 15w-50 isn't any cheaper than the OEM Merc oil, but it will hold up better. The 15w-50 has a much more robust add pack than the 30wt, Mobil 1 offerings. Another excellent product in the same price range is the Amsoil 15w-40/AME. I have experience with that oil in the 7.4L Mercruiser engine and the oil I tested after 125 hours of ...
Conventional 20W50 For Harley Davidson | BobIsTheOilGuy
May 18, 2010 · For my Fatboy, I used the HD360 during the warranty period and then the Mobil 1 V-twin 20w50. I purchased the Mobil 1 V-twin oil during the month of March +/- month when bike season is in full swing and places like Autozone, Advance autoparts "always" has sales for motorcycle specific oils for ~$2 off/at or reduced oil change packages so at least you can stock …
20w50 for Hydrogear ZT 3100s | BobIsTheOilGuy
Mar 8, 2012 · Hydrogear used to come stock with Castrol GTX 20W-50. I saw a guy that sells and repairs all these hydros, and he said they all run hot and with too little oil for proper cooling, so the oil is really stressed. Also there is aluminum on steel and other cheap wear surfaces that dirty the oil pretty quickly.
Lowest safe starting/operating temps for oil | BobIsTheOilGuy
Aug 22, 2008 · Well, by definition, the SAE 20w test is done at 5 degrees F for cold cranking and -4 degrees F for cold pumping. So 5 degrees F is the absolute lowest temp you want to safely start an engine with a conventional 20w-50 oil since at that temp, the engine will safely crank and the oil will safely pump. But that's at the margin.

Who makes the best synthetic 20W50? | BobIsTheOilGuy
Nov 16, 2002 · My choice goes to the oil you all are forgetting - Mobil 1 V Twin 20W50. It is the choice of many of the Offshore boating crowd as well as many, many motorcycle owners. These engines have higher performance capabilities than most cars. Those owners have deep enough pockets to pay a few extra bucks for this oil. that would be my recommendation.
Why The Dislike For 20W-50? | BobIsTheOilGuy
Dec 9, 2013 · Oil started to improve in the 90s. The first obsolete grade was a tie between 10W-40 and 20W-50. 2. No one grade of oil, straight or with a W rating, fits every single application, but 0W-20 is by FAR the strongest candidate to do so. 3. Even Jaguar die-hard 20W-50 people use 0W-30 in their cars now. Mostly. They have seen the light. 4.
