Sep 9, 2013 · I would say this: there are good homes and bad homes built in any time frame. Just as there were good homes built in the 90s, there are good homes built in the 2000s and 2010s. I've seen quite a few custom built homes and going back all the way to the 60's and 70s, they can still be quite magnificient.

Big differences in cost will be for HVAC systems [replacementfor useful life], appliances, etc. A house with solid wood cabinet frames built in the 90's will be better than builder grade built today. Pella or anderson windows/doors from 2000-2010 will outlast new builder grade. Wood floors v engineered hardwood. Roof etc.

Nov 26, 2013 · This house seems to be move in ready, a decent size, layout and location but I really hate the rounded columns or pillars in each room. I am surprised they did that because all new homes since the early 2000s use built in place square columns with molding and trim.

ANYWAY - for us it meant 1. new flooring (old carpet was dirty and teal) and 2. new paint. Otherwise the house is fine. The kitchen and bathroom are straight from the 90s, but 100% useable.
