These data reveal a novel mechanism by which CD43 regulates T-cell function, and suggest that CD43 functions as a signaling molecule, sensing extracellular cues and transducing intracellular signals that modulate T-cell function.

Using immunohistochemistry, CD43 can be demonstrated in the paracortical T-cells of healthy lymph nodes and tonsils; it is also positive in a range of lymphoid and myeloid tumours.
