Jan 18, 2022 · The LMH spec can be called "Hypercar" but to avoid confusion it is best to call it "Le Mans Hypercar" or "LMH" for clarity. The LMH subspec for road-going tubs is called "Hypercar" as well. The LMDh can accurately be called "Hypercar" in the sense that it belongs to the overall environment.

Dec 8, 2022 · The brand rules are about the classes in the series (GTP in IMSA, Hypercar in WEC), not about LMDh or LMH. They apply equally regardless of the spec of car. To compete in IMSAs GTP class using either an LMDh or an LMH you have to be a US car brand selling at least (I think) 2,500 cars a year in the US market.

Either LMH or LMDh might have performance advantage over other caregory but they’ll be balanced through BoP so it will be ok. Also LMDh deploys it’s hybrid power through gearbox so despite having same power curve, LMDh cars might have better throttle response and consistent hybrid power output through various speed so it won’t matter a lot

LMH are (were) Toyota, Ferrari, Peugeot, Glickenhaus, Vanwall, Isotta Fraschini and Aston Martin. LMDh are Porsche, BMW, Cadillac, Acura, Alpine and Lamborghini. So it's been a fairly even split. Why would a manufacturer choose to race an LMH car, when it costs more than double an LMDh car, and they are going to be BOP'ed to race against each other at the same pace?

Jun 20, 2024 · LMH and LMDh are regulated heavily to keep costs in check and ensure a somewhat level playing field for all. That includes a set drag coefficient which slows the cars down, as well as higher overall weight.
