Third-ish, bi-amping was a thing. I believe Alembic was advocating for the use of VERY boutique (translate: incredibly expensive) McIntosh stereo power amps at the time.

Dec 3, 2011 · IME, Alembic electronics are what set them apart from other boutique basses. You either dig the Alembic sound, or you don't. I have a 4 string Epic that I love. The output has a very wide frequency response, and can present as very Hi-Fi. I like that the pups on Alembics are low impedance, and are built with weaker magnets than traditional pups.

The Series I pickups were wound low impedance, which means they had less turns of a heavier gauge wire for a cleaner tone, but they have to nbe used with a preamp. May 4, 2002 · Alembic pre, Furmin Parametric EQ, BGW power amp, and the JBL Cabaret 15's.... pretty nice for the time... things IMO are much better now (smaller, lighter, punchier, louder), but that Alembic pre really is a classic and has held up VERY well through the years for guys looking for that 'real Fender' tube tone.
