What does the KAIC rating mean on a circuit breaker?
Oct 3, 2023 · kAIC means the maixum current interruption capacity of circuit braker. IC stands for interruption capcaity. So if a CB has 10 kAIC means it can cut off current of up to 10 kA without damaging itself.
SELECTION OF KAIC RATING 1 - Eng-Tips
Feb 26, 2013 · AIC means "Amps Interrupting Capacity", the k is shorthand for thousand. So if a breaker says it is 65kAIC, that means it can survive the physical forces that take place when interrupting a fault current level of 65,000 Amperes and interrupt the flow of current without becoming a bomb.
kAIC rating - Electric power & transmission & distribution - Eng-Tips
Aug 26, 2011 · If you have a transfer switch with a "kAIC" rating, it must be one of the types that utilize circuit breakers as the switching devices. You should be able to read the circuit breaker part numbers somewhere and look it up in the mfr's data sheets. If the transfer switch mechanism does not use circuit breakers, it does not have a "kAIC" rating on it.

Jul 13, 2010 · On the other hand if the equipment is rated (UL listed) for 200kAIC (stamped on the nameplate), you should be able to them. In fact there will be CLF either in the breakers or the switch-fuse units to have 200 kAIC rating, but those have to be factory assembled and labeled equipment. Rafiq Bulsara

AIC Rating and Coordination of Circuit Breakers - Eng-Tips
May 18, 2005 · 1. Having a higher KAIC rating, say 65KAIC and 42KAIC above, would that necessarily means they might have differernt let-thru characteristic such that, let say you do have a 25KA fault, the 65KAIC will let-thru more cycles of the 25KA than a 42KAIC breaker would?
What is kilo ampere interrupting capacity? - Answers
Kilo ampere interrupting capacity (KAIC) refers to the maximum amount of electrical current in kiloamperes that a circuit breaker or fuse can safely interrupt without sustaining damage. It is a ...
Max Fault Current or Amperage Interrupt Capacity(AIC) calculation
Jun 16, 2011 · The actual interupting capacity of a breaker rated at 10 kAIC will be a value that corresponds to the maximum peak current possible based on a representative value of the X/R ratio of the source. Use the %impedance of the supply transformer to select equipment that will safely interrupt the actual possible fault currents.
When is disconnect required to be fused? - Eng-Tips
Nov 4, 2003 · There is this industrial building where non-fused disconnect switches were specified and installed within sight of electric motors (pumps). Each pump is fed from motor control centers and protected with either MCBB or MCP. The purpose of the disconnect is to service the equipment (pumps)...
