I bought AppleCare+ with my iPhone 12 Pro at launch. I used a screen protector and a apple leather case. I dropped it with the case about 1.5 meters and the top of the case broke and it chipped my phone.

I've had the iPhone X for 3 years without case or AppleCare+, no problems at all, no drops. I'm not planning to put on a case on my new iPhone 12 pro when it arrives , except when going to the gym, for obvious reasons.
