May 16, 2019 · It should be 1/2" or 3/8". It looks like you have 1/2" iron gas line there with a 1/2" shut off valve. Just unscrew the adapter and put on an iron cap. I might suggest after you get it capped that you remove the valve handle, it can be attached to the pipe with some heavy wire so you will be able to find it if you ever want to use the valve again.
