Jul 29, 2017 · The issue seems to be multifold. A thumb drive formated with exfat is being seen as FAT and not exfat by the Mac. Running first aid on the failed partition in Disk Utility fails with fsck_msdos being run... Running fsck_exfat on the partition /dev/disk2s1 returns fine. Running it on the disk /dev/disk2 fails looking for the boot regions/signatures.

Aug 4, 2014 · Hi. Long time Mac user. I make videos & upgraded to Ventura 13.0.1. I format external drives in exFAT so I can use them with Windows when necessary. The new system says "allow to connect" with drives plugged in, and I say yes. Should be fine. But now on my Intel Mac & my M1 Mac, plugging in a drive does nothing.

After approx. 6 hours of running time, another 9 days are assumed. Only a relatively small amount of data was copied, so the remaining 9 days would probably have been needed.

I do not believe you can specify the Allocation Block Size when ExFAT formatting a partition with either the diskutil command or Disk Utility application. However, you can with the newfs_exfat command.

Nov 17, 2022 · When I copy data from my MacBook Pro (M1) to my external drive (HDD USB 3.0 - exFAT) it is slow (60 MByte/sec). When I copy the same data from a Windows PC on that drive, I reached a much better performance (120MByte/sec). Is there a way to improve the exFAT performance on Mac? I disabled Spotlight search on external drives, but this does nothing.
