Digikam: pros, cons, alternatives for photo management?
Dec 27, 2020 · Most digiKam users don't use Google Photos to begin with ;) I don't think digiKam was designed for this use case Yeah: keep the source files on an SMB or NFS share, then point each client's digiKam installation to that SMB or NFS share as its library. That said, I'm not sure how digiKam handles multiple clients using the same library

Dec 2, 2020 · So I figured out how to do this in digikam. Search for your duplicates. Then highlight all of the items in the duplicates tab. You should now see the references and duplicates for all your images. Now click view -> sort items -> by similarity. All of the references should now be at the bottom. Jan 18, 2023 · Hi - thanks for this useful guide. Can you tell me exactly what the settings are that you have on DigiKam. I have a server running photoprism, and I sync the originals folder with a folder on my laptop using syncthing. I use this as both a backup and as a way of library management - picture rotation, tagging etc. which I do with DigiKam.

I'm using DigiKam Beta 7 version and it is working really good! Right click an album and scan for faces. After it finishes, click the face tab on the RHS and then do it the same way as you do in Picasa, eg from the unknown faces simply click them and add names.

I've switched from MacOS to Linux just to use Digikam and darktable for my FOSS photography workflow. And KDE overall is my preferred DE because really consistent across the overall user experience.

Looking forward to seeing your darktable / digikam setup. I am at 58k photos/videos, using mariadb as a db for digikam on nvme and external slowish (150mb/s) hdd for actual files. Digikam is struggggling with big 60mp files, crashes a lot too, so take that into account. I am glad it doesn't seem to mess up files and is quick to restart.
